There are roughly 600 chateau in St Emilion but not all produce wines under the prestigious St Emilion Grand Cru Classé appellation. St Emilion is home to one of the oldest wine fraternites in the world. The Jurade de Saint-Émilion, a brotherhood of wine lovers, has been safeguarding the region's wine traditions since 1199!

One of the most fascinating aspects of St. Emilion's medieval history is its iconic Monolithic Church. This extraordinary church was carved entirely out of solid rock from the 9th to the 19th centuries. It's a testament to the skill and dedication of the region's builders, who painstakingly shaped the church's intricate details from the surrounding limestone. There are nearly 200 kilometers of underground caves under the cobble stoned streets of the village. The church's unique architecture and historical significance have earned it a place on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
