Wine & Design - A different way to discover Bordeaux and its vineyards.

Discover Bordeaux through its incredible architecture

Your Wine and Design voyage to Bordeaux, will show how the success of France’s largest 17th century port was used to showcase the wealth and the wine of the region through the beautiful architecture of the city and the chateaux. We will explore how these chateaux today marry design and functionality to create some of the greatest wines of the world.

Accompanied by award winning Interior designer Abigail Hall, leading Bordeaux wine educator Wendy Narby and architectural expert Barbara Teetsov we will visit properties throughout the wine region and the beautiful city of Bordeaux.

At the end of your 3 days you will be able to form your very own opinion as to whether these vineyards manage to implement the latest technology without losing their historical soul.

We have chosen this weekend in May to coincide with the Bordeaux Brocante, one of the biggest open-air antique fairs in France.

As well as admiring the architecture and design of the region both old and new, we will learn about and taste some of the best wines the region has to offer.

 Arrival Day

Your hotel will be the Mama Shelter, a funky, design-led small chain by Philippe Starck right in the heart of the city.

Meet your guide Wendy Narby and Abigail Hall in the confidentiel restaurant on the quays of Bordeaux for an introduction of your week-end. The explanation will be followed by a 3 courses dinner in this charming restaurant.

The Medoc Appellation

Meet Abigail and Wendy for breakfast and an introduction to your itinerary for the weekend.

Departure for the Medoc.

Visit and tasting at Chateau Marquis d’Alesme- a classified growth of the prestigious Margaux appellation. We will visit the new cellars designed to reflect the Franco-Chinese ownership of this historic chateau and join the functionality of fine wine with high design. We will have lunch and taste the wines amongst the newly created aromatic gardens of the property.

Visit and tasting at Chateau Beychevelle, classified growth of the Saint Julien Appellation.  A classic example of Eighteenth century Bordeaux wine architecture, built on the banks of the Gironde estuary in Saint Julien. Called the Versailles of the Medoc it remains one of the best-preserved examples of architecture from this period.

Visit and tasting at Chateau Pedesclaux, fifth classified growth of the Pauillac appellation winner of   “the Best of Wine Tourism 2018”,  category “Architecture and Landscapes“.  This chateau perfectly marries the old and the new the existing 18th century chateau is enclosed within in a class case, including the pigeon tower, creating a panoramic new tasting room and the new cellars is the work of the architect Jean Michel Wilmotte.
