Burgundy Made Simple? Part 1: Is it possible?
Burgundy is complex for sure, maybe one of the most complicated to understand. Its scope extends from Chablis in the north to Beaujolais in the southern region. With its plethora of appellations, even the seasoned wine enthusiast can get confused. Burgundy has, over the past suffered from comparison with its illustrious cousin Bordeaux the later being far easier to comprehend with its clear cut appellations and that the mere mention of the property name equates to the level of quality. Burgundy however is a collection of area names or ‘climats’ each being split betweens several owners.
To understand Burgundy one must learn how it is structured. It is made up of patchwork of disorganized parcels of land owned by several different producers. Watch our posts over the next few weeks for a brief explanation of this illustrious region.
